TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State powered to a 10-2 victory over Fort Hays State in the opening contest of Friday's doubleheader at RiverHawks Park.
The RiverHawks (21-17, 8-9 MIAA) snapped a six-game losing streak with the win. After surrendering a score in the opening inning to the Tigers (18-22, 4-11 MIAA),
Jensyn Elder held the visitors to one run the rest of the way behind four scoreless frames.Â
Ashlynn Turner had NSU's first RBI hit of the day with a single to bring
Annsleigh Morris across home plate in the fourth inning.
Emily Carpenter brought four across with a grand slam in the following inning. In the sixth, the RiverHawks finished off the Tigers with a two-RBI homer from
Peyton Watson, followed by an RBI triple from
Annsleigh Morris and a Morris run from an FHSU error.
In the win, Elder struck out four and did not allow an extra-base hit. Morris and
Mia Sarwinski each had two hits in the victory.
