JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Northeastern State climbed two spots on the leaderboard Tuesday after posting one of the day's lower rounds in the second round of the MIAA Men's Golf Championship.
The RiverHawks, who were tied for the fourth-lowest team score of the day, improved their position to eighth place with a two-round total of 610 (311-299).
Northeastern State showed marked improvement in its second round, trimming 12 strokes off Monday's total as the team gained momentum heading into the final day of competition.
Mateo Castro led the charge for the RiverHawks, carding a 2-over 74 in the second round. Castro has totaled seven birdies through two rounds, tied for the third-most among all players in the field.
Ian Wilcoxen delivered one of the biggest turnarounds of the day, improving by eight strokes after firing an even-par 72 on Tuesday following an opening-round 80. He is tied for 25th overall with a two-day total of 152.
Juan Vergel also sits tied for 22nd at 151, while
Nathan Biais matched Wilcoxen at 152 to give Northeastern State multiple players within striking distance entering the final round.
The RiverHawks will close out the MIAA Championship on Wednesday with the final round.
