TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Northeastern State's
Reese Shirey is one of 15 women's basketball student-athletes to earn the MIAA Academic Excellence Award, the conference announced Tuesday as part of its winter sports honor roll.
A sophomore, Shirey carries a 4.0 grade point average in marketing. She was previously named to the honor in summer 2025 and is the first Northeastern State women's basketball student-athlete to earn the accolade twice.
She was also named to the MIAA Honor Roll along with
Deyanna Douglas,
Gracy Shieldnight,
Gabrielle Tilley and
Snowda Watie, all of whom earned their second academic recognition.
To qualify for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, as determined by the institution for NCAA academic certification. The student-athlete also must have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying institution, excluding summer terms.
The MIAA will announce freshmen and newcomers during the summer following the spring academic term.
