TAHLEQUAH – Coming off a pair of ranked home wins, Northeastern State softball hits the road to face No. 2 Pittsburg State in an MIAA doubleheader beginning at noon on Friday.
First pitch was moved earlier in the day due to the threat of severe weather later in the afternoon.
The RiverHawks (26-17, 11-9 MIAA) enter the matchup riding a six-game winning streak. One more win would match their highest total against NCAA Division II competition over the past three seasons. Head Coach
Cassidy Bowen needs three wins to own the program mark for victories in a debut season.
During the win streak, NSU has shown a flair for the dramatic, with multiple walk-off victories in the nightcap.
Jensyn Elder has led the RiverHawks in the circle, posting a 3.11 ERA. Although she didn't start either midweek win over Oklahoma Baptist, she recorded a save and has not allowed a run over her last 8.2 innings of work.
Pittsburg State (39-2, 11-1 MIAA) enters on a five-game winning streak and owns a 13-1 record at home this season. The Gorillas are hitting .392 as a team, led by senior Heather Arnett, who currently holds an NCAA Division II record with a 42-game hitting streak.
Northeastern State trails the all-time series 36-29 and is 13-21 in Pittsburg.
