Northeastern State Drops 5-2 Decision to Bearcats

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- Northeastern State dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 32 Northwest Missouri State on Thursday in an MIAA women's tennis matchup moved indoors due to inclement weather.

The dual, played at Genesis Indoor Courts, saw the RiverHawks fall to 8-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while the nationally ranked Bearcats improved to 13-1 and 4-0 in the MIAA.

Northwest Missouri State secured the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 before Northeastern State's top duo of Daisy Barrow and Renta Morales earned a 6-3 victory at No. 1.

In singles play, the Bearcats claimed four of six matches to clinch the team victory. Northeastern State picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 6 singles. Barrow delivered a straight-sets victory, 6-3, 6-1, over Majra Djokic, while Lucia Bontempo battled back for a three-set win, 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7), at No. 6.

Northwest Missouri State's Miru Nonaka, Chiharu Ito, Laura Prieto Sieiro and Polina Gontaryk each recorded singles victories to seal the match.

Northeastern State will return to action Friday against Missouri Western. First serve is scheduled for 9 a.m.
