Parker leads field at MIAA Championships

WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- Jessica Parker landed a 73 to finish with the individual lead after the first round of action at the MIAA Women's Golf Championship, while Northeasten State sits in a tie for ninth.

The RiverHawks shot a 324 as a unit, tying with Pittsburg State inside the top ten. Both teams sit six strokes back of eighth-place MoWest, while they hold a one-stroke edge over 11th-place Missouri Southern. 

Parker holds a one-stroke advantage over a three-way tie for second with two rounds left. The senior tied for the tournament-best across the first round on par 4s and par 5s, additionally recording a pair of birdies on holes eight and ten.

Talya Samir recorded a 79 to tie for 26th with three other competitors. Laia Llorens recorded an 84, while Laci Fravert finished with an 88.

The tournament continues with the second round tomorrow from Mules National Golf Club.
