TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State closed out their first multi-game regular season series sweep over Central Oklahoma in program history with an 8-2 Tuesday victory at Rousey Field.
The RiverHawks (14-28, 9-21 MIAA) gave up a score to the Bronchos (23-21, 14-16 MIAA) in the first and third innings, but would not surrender a run after. The combined efforts of
Holden Yaksick,
Izac Sizemore,
Bryce Bond and
Evan Schuelke in relief of
Jack Haag saw the RiverHawks hold the visitors to just two base hits across the last six innings, as the group combined for five strikeouts in the process.
Run support came via a three-run fourth inning, guided by a two-run homer from
Carson Miller. They added runs on an
Xavier Sanchez RBI in the fifth and a
Joseph Perry grand slam in the seventh. UCO's greatest chance at a comeback was halted in the top of the eighth, when a Bond strikeout caused the Bronchos to leave three runners stranded.
The offense was led by multi-hit performances from
Jake Woodring (three) and
Jaxon Gregory (two), though consistency was present across the order. Eight different players, including seven starters, had a base hit in the win, which moved the RiverHawks to 7-4 in Tuesday games in 2026.
Northeastern State returns to action Thursday in Tahlequah to start a doubleheader against Fort Hays State at 1 p.m.
