RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. --
Brooke Wyatt tossed her first shutout of the season as Northeastern State edged Arkansas Tech 1-0 on Monday to split a doubleheader.
Wyatt needed 96 pitches to complete the seven-inning effort, allowing four hits while holding the Golden Suns scoreless.
The RiverHawks (27-21) broke through in the seventh inning, capitalizing on defensive miscues.
Charlea Cochran led off with a walk before an error on a sacrifice bunt put two runners aboard. After a fielder's choice and a walk to
Emily Carpenter loaded the bases,
Peyton Watson reached on another error by the pitcher, allowing the game's only run to score.
Northeastern State was limited to four hits and struck out 10 times, marking the second time this season the RiverHawks have reached double-digit strikeouts in a win.
The victory snapped a 13-game losing streak to Arkansas Tech dating back to 2012 and marked Northeastern State's first road win over the Golden Suns since 2011.
The RiverHawks will close out the regular season Saturday with an MIAA doubleheader at Rogers State in Claremore.
