Softball to end regular season in Claremore

| By:
TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State concludes the regular season with a Saturday (12/2 p.m.) doubleheader at Rogers State in Claremore.

The RiverHawks (27-21, 11-11 MIAA) enter the weekend after a split on Tuesday against Arkansas Tech. A 1-0 victory in the late game against the Golden Suns snapped a four-game slide. Strong pitching was a highlight, as the RiverHawks held the Golden Suns to just two runs on eight hits for the day.

Mattison Hamilton had three base hits in the ATU doubleheader and enters NSU's last regular season date with the team lead in hits (53). Annsleigh Morris has a hit in seven of her last eight and paces the group in doubles (13). The junior registered her seventh home run of the season on Tuesday to match Madison Nance for the team lead.

In the circle, Jensyn Elder has surrendered no more than one earned run in six of her last seven appearances. Elder leads the team in wins (12), as well as innings pitched (137.1) entering Saturday. Opposing batters have mustered a .243 batting average against Elder this season, the lowest by an NSU pitcher with at least 22 starts since 2016.

Brooke Wyatt left Russellville with momentum after tossing her first complete game of the season in the shutout win against the Golden Suns. Meanwhile, Gracie Turner has surrendered just five hits over her last six appearances, including just one through 1.2 innings of action during the ATU doubleheader.

The Hillcats (32-16, 13-9 MIAA) return to conference play for the first time in two weeks when they host the RiverHawks Saturday. The RiverHawks hold an 11-15 all-time record against the Hillcats and have dropped the last eight. When they take the field, NSU will be in pursuit of its first win against RSU since Apr. 17, 2021 and the first in Claremore since Apr. 11, 2017.
