Season ends in MIAA/GAC Quarterfinals for Men's Tennis

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Northeastern State's first trip to the postseason in 25 years came to an end in the quarterfinals of the MIAA/GAC Men's Tennis Tournament on Wednesday, falling 4-3 to top-seeded Washburn.

The fourth-seeded RiverHawks were dealt an early blow with a pair of losses in doubles play to put them behind a point to the Ichabods. Washburn won courts four and six to start singles action, putting Northeastern State in a 3-0 deficit.

The top of the lineup began NSU's comeback effort, with James Edley and Alexander Edley earning wins in No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Baptiste Linet produced the equalizing point after with a two-set win in No. 5 singles, leaving the match to be decided on court three.

Mansur Khajimuradov battled from an opening set defeat to force the only three-set bout of the day, but the Ichabods clinched the deciding point after nearly three hours to survive and advance.

The RiverHawks wrapped their first campaign as a revived program with a 6-11 record.
