TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Fresh off back-to-back series wins over Arkansas-Fort Smith and Central Oklahoma, Northeastern State turns its attention to a three-game home series against No. 6 Pittsburg State beginning Thursday at 6 p.m.
The series was moved up one day due to the potential for inclement weather Sunday. The teams will play Friday at 3 p.m., with the series finale set for Saturday at 1 p.m.
Northeastern State (13-21, 8-14 MIAA) delivered one of its best performances of the season Tuesday, limiting Central Oklahoma to three hits in a shutout — its first against the Bronchos since May 2021.
Xavier Sanchez enters the series on an eight-game hitting streak and has reached base in 16 consecutive contests.
Jaxon Gregory carries a 10-game hitting streak and leads the RiverHawks with 32 RBIs.
Pittsburg State (28-8, 17-8 MIAA) opened the season with 17 straight wins and remains one of the top offensive teams in the conference. The Gorillas have dropped five of their last seven games but are hitting .360 as a team with 86 doubles and 98 stolen bases.
Northeastern State trails the all-time series 39-36 but holds a 23-15 advantage at Rousey Field.
