EMPORIA, Kan. — Northeastern State dropped its regular season finale to Emporia State in a 2-1 final.
The RiverHawks were held to four hits in the loss, scoring their lone run in the eighth inning after both sides played to a scoreless draw through seven. Chance Pair's RBI single gave NSU the 1-0 edge entering the home half of the eighth, but ESU (35-15, 22-14 MIAA) responded with two scores of their own. The top of the ninth saw the RiverHawks limited to a pair of groundouts and a pop out to end the game.
Jaxon Gregory, Jake Woodring and Alex Nirider each had a base hit alongside Pair in the loss. Five different arms held ESU scoreless in the first seven frames, but Evan Schuelke was assessed the loss after allowing the go-ahead run. Jack Haag started and pitched 2.1 innings, collecting three strikeouts.
The RiverHawks end the regular season with an overall record of 16-32, finishing 11-25 in conference play.
