CLAREMORE, Okla. -- Northeastern State closed the regular season with a statement win Saturday, defeating Rogers State 5-0 to earn a spot in the MIAA Tournament.
The RiverHawks (28-22, 12-12 MIAA) snapped a nine-game losing streak to the Hillcats and picked up their first win in Claremore since 2017. The victory also secured NSU's return to the postseason after missing the last three tournaments.
Northeastern State broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning when
Ashlynn Turner delivered an RBI double to plate the game's first run. The RiverHawks added three more runs in the sixth, capitalizing on Rogers State errors to extend the lead to 4-0. An RBI single from
Mattison Hamilton in the seventh provided the final margin.
Brooke Wyatt (6-4) was dominant in the circle, tossing a complete-game shutout. She allowed just three hits and struck out three while facing only one walk.
Mia Sarwinski led the offense with two hits, while Turner and Hamilton each drove in a run.
With the win, Northeastern State advances to the MIAA Tournament as the No. 7 seed and will face Northwest Missouri on Wednesday in Emporia, Kansas.
