CLAREMORE, Okla. –
Eduardo Matos scored with just over two minutes remaining Saturday night, lifting Northeastern State men's soccer to a 2-1 victory over Rogers State at Soldier Field.
Matos found the back of the net in the 88th minute, scoring his first goal of the season to break a 1-1 deadlock and give the RiverHawks the road win.
Northeastern State struck first when
Avelino Rosa scored in the 13th minute off an assist from
Edson Marchan. The RiverHawks carried the 1-0 advantage into halftime.
Rogers State answered early in the second half, with Louis Bassett tying the match in the 53rd minute.
The RiverHawks regained the lead late when Matos scored at the 87:47 mark.
Cameron McColloch made seven saves for Northeastern State, including four in the second half, to help preserve the victory. NSU finished with nine shots, putting four on target, while Rogers State had 13 shots and eight on goal.
The RiverHawks improve to 2-6-1 overall and 1-2-1 in GAC/MIAA play. Rogers State falls to 5-3-1 overall and 1-2 in GAC/MIAA play.
Northeastern State returns home Wednesday to host Ouachita Baptist, opening a four-match homestand.
