TOPEKA, Kan. -- Northeastern State volleyball opened Saturday's match with an early lead but was unable to maintain the momentum, falling to Washburn 3-0 at Lee Arena.
The RiverHawks took control early in the first set, building a lead before Washburn rallied late. NSU stayed within striking distance throughout the set but the Ichabods closed out a 25-21 victory.
Washburn carried the momentum into the second set, pulling away for a 25-12 win. The RiverHawks battled back in the third, but the Ichabods again finished strong to take the set 25-18 and complete the sweep.
Simeon Paradiso led the RiverHawks with six kills, while
Lanie Brown matched her with six kills and hit .231.
Sydney Dunkleberger recorded 12 assists and two service aces, while
Cailey Grinstead paced NSU with 10 digs.
Washburn was led by Brynne Topolski, who recorded 17 kills while hitting .810.
Northeastern State falls to 1-13 overall and 0-4 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play. Washburn improves to 14-3 overall and 3-1 in MIAA play.
The RiverHawks return home Tuesday to host East Central at 6 p.m.
