RiverHawks Fall to Newman in Three Sets

LAWTON, Okla. -- Northeastern State volleyball dropped a three-set decision to Newman on Friday afternoon, falling 25-17, 25-23, 25-15 at the Aggie Gymnasium.

The RiverHawks (0-4) battled Newman through the opening two sets, but the Jets pulled away in the third set behind a dominant offensive performance.

Newman hit .500 in the third set, recording 17 kills with just three errors on 28 attacks. The Jets finished the match with 36 kills and a .258 hitting percentage.

Northeastern State finished with 26 kills and hit .100 for the match. Ashlyn Tag led the RiverHawks with seven kills, while Poliana Lazarini added six kills. Ceylin Sar recorded three kills without an attack error.

Sydney Dunkleberger paced the NSU offense with 10 assists, while Tiyana Bhatte added seven assists. Northeastern State also recorded two service aces, with Lazarini and Avery Dempsey each contributing one.

Newman was led offensively by Priscilla Raschen and Isabella Lamb, who recorded 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Raschen hit .375 for the match.

The Jets took control early in the opening set and closed out a 25-17 victory. The second set was much closer, with the RiverHawks pushing Newman to the final points before the Jets secured a 25-23 win.

Newman then opened the third set with a strong offensive attack and built a sizable advantage. Northeastern State continued to battle, but the Jets' .500 hitting percentage helped Newman finish the sweep with a 25-15 third-set victory.

The RiverHawks remain in action Friday, facing Quincy later in the afternoon.
