Don Vieth currently serves as the Assistant Athletics Director for Strategic Communications at Northeastern State University, a role he has held since 2019 after initially joining the RiverHawks in 2016 as Director of Athletics Communications. In his leadership position, Vieth oversees the department’s strategic communications, social media presence, media relations, and internship program, while also serving as sport administrator for NSU baseball and tennis. He additionally manages scheduling responsibilities for the football program, the NCAA’s lone Division II independent, securing landmark opportunities including the team’s first FCS opponent and first flight trip in more than a decade.

Under his direction, NSU Athletics has seen significant digital growth, including tripling its Facebook following and more than doubling its presence on X (Twitter), becoming the first NCAA Division II program in Oklahoma to earn Twitter verification. Vieth was recognized as Northeastern State’s Model the Way Recipient in 2024 for his leadership and innovation. He also led the department’s successful application for the NCAA Ethnic Minorities and Women’s Internship Grant, further strengthening NSU’s commitment to expanding athletic leadership. In 2025, he was selected to participate in the prestigious NACDA Senior Administrators Mentoring Institute.

A highly respected figure in collegiate athletics communications, Vieth has served as D2CCA Softball Central Region Awards Coordinator, National Chair of the D2SIDA Women’s Basketball Poll, and currently holds roles as Super Region 3 Chair for the Gene Upshaw Award and as a member of the CSC Academic All-America Committee. Since his arrival at NSU, the RiverHawks have celebrated eight Academic All-America selections under his promotional efforts, and he spearheaded the redesign of the university’s athletics website, GoRiverHawksGo.com, in 2017.

Vieth began his career at his alma mater, Winona State University, as Director of New Media and Broadcasting before moving into communications roles at High Point University, the Lone Star Conference, and Cameron University. During his tenure at Cameron, he served as Sports Information Director, SAAC advisor, and founder of #SIDAchat, a national Twitter forum for athletic communications professionals. He was also recognized as an early leader in integrating social media into athletic communications strategy.

In addition to his role at NSU, Vieth was sworn in as a City Councilmember for the City of Coweta in September 2025, further expanding his leadership and service to the community.

Originally from Mauston, Wisconsin, Vieth earned both his bachelor’s degree in mass communications-broadcasting and history and his master’s degree in sports management from Winona State. His professional experience also includes broadcasting NCAA championship events and working in media production with the Southern Illinois Miners of the Frontier League.

Vieth resides in Coweta, Oklahoma, with his wife Rebecca, a Northeastern State graduate in speech pathology, and their two sons, Weston and Wilder.
