Casey Carlo is entering his first season at Northeastern State. He is serving as the co-defensive coordinator, and he is responsible for the defensive line.

Prior to joining the RiverHawk football program, Carlo spent four years (2005-08) working under former NSU co-defensive coordinator Mike Knoll at Upper Iowa University when Knoll was the head coach.

Carlo comes to Tahlequah after spending the 2012 season at Texas A&M University-Commerce, where he also coached the d-line and served as the recruiting coordinator. In his lone season in Commerce, he helped the Lions double their sack total from the previous season to 16.

Carlo also served as the defensive line coach at Division I FCS Drake University from 2010-12. In 2011, the Bulldogs captured the Pioneer Football League Championship, their first since 2004.

Prior to his time Drake, Carlo spent one season at Southwest Minnesota State, helping the Mustangs improve their national ranking in a handful of statistical categories.

Carlo spent a year in the high school ranks, serving as the defensive line coach at Urbandale High School in Urbandale, Iowa from 2004-05. Prior to that, he spent two seasons as the assistant strength and conditioning coach at his alma mater, the University of Northern Iowa. During this time, three of Carlo’s players were drafted to the NFL with 15 being named all-conference.

He got his start in coaching at Northern University High School in Cedar Falls, Iowa, taking on the role of defensive coordinator and linebackers coach from 1996-99.

Carlo earned his bachelor’s degree in general studies with a minor in coaching from the University of Northern Iowa in 1996. During his career there, the Panthers captured the Gateway Conference Championship three times, qualifying for the NCAA FCS playoffs.
