The 2017 season is the first at NSU for Robert Hernandez as a graduate assistant with the football program. He assists with the outside linebackers.

Hernandez came to Tahlequah after serving as a strength and conditioning intern at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas for one semester and one summer serving as the head strength and conditioning coach at Sahuarita High School in Sahuarita, Ariz.

He played from 2012-15 at Southwestern College and saw action as an outside linebacker, safety, and defensive end. He earned the KCAC Champion of Character Award in 2015 and was elected the male student-athlete of the year at Southwestern College for the 2015-16 school year. He also served as the president of Fellowship of Christian athletes for the 2015-16 school year at SC.

Hernandez graduated from SC in December 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history. He is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in health and kinesiology from Northeastern State.

He is the son of Robert and Jennifer Hernandez and brother to Elizabeth and Erienne.
