Orry Phillips enters his second season as a full-time member of athletics staff, operating as the head of broadcasts, which includes his duties as the "Voice of the RiverHawks”, while serving as a communications assistant on the sports information team.
Phillips’s duties include overseeing the production of every home livestream on the broadcasting platform of NSU athletics, the MIAA Network, while anchoring the on-air product as the play-by-play voice of all athletics teams with online video coverage. This includes, but is not limited to football, men’s and women’s basketball, and baseball.
Phillips also serves as a media liaison within the department and is responsible for the production of many game recaps, previews, and other stories featured on
goriverhawksgo.com.
The 2024-25 athletics season saw Phillips serve as the lead broadcaster for Northeastern State's first season with official radio partner Lakes Country 102.1 FM, handling play-by-play for every football game, all home games and road conference games for basketball, and NSU baseball's first radio broadcast in Tahlequah since 2022. Additionally, Phillips was on the call for NSU softball's first ever live radio broadcast in Tahlequah on Mar. 28, when the RiverHawks faced off against Central Missouri from RiverHawks Park. Phillips started broadcasting for Northeastern State when he joined the department in Spring 2023, as the primary voice of baseball and softball. He later served as a graduate assistant for the 2023-24 athletics season and expanded his on-air responsibilities to encompass the program’s live coverage of men’s and women’s basketball and soccer. Starting in the 2024-25 season, he began as the new play-by-play man for NSU football.
Previously, Orry spent time broadcasting as an undergraduate student at John Brown University (Ark.), where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Communication with a Media Communication Emphasis. Phillips was the voice of JBU Golden Eagles women’s basketball from 2019-2022, while handling play-by-play duties on women's volleyball from 2020-2022.
Additionally, Orry is a public address announcer for the Northwest Arkansas Naturals in Springdale, Ark. Phillips has held that role with the Double-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals since 2022.
Orry resides in Tahlequah, Okla. with his cat, Katie. He has a twin brother, Grant, who is a recent graduate of the University of Arkansas.
