Tatiana Garcia is a two time state champion wrestler from Amarillo, Texas, and a graduate of Caprock High School. Wrestling has played a major role in shaping her discipline, resilience, leadership, and commitment to helping others. After placing third at state her first two years of high school, Tatiana went undefeated her junior and senior seasons, winning back-to-back state championships. She also earned a state championship in freestyle wrestling.
Tatiana continued her wrestling career at William Penn University in Iowa while earning a bachelor's degree in Sociology and Human Services with a minor in Criminology. Her education and experiences as a student-athlete have given her a strong understanding of people, communities, and the challenges athletes face both on and off the mat.
Now pursuing a Master of Social Work at Northeastern State University, Tatiana hopes to combine her passion for wrestling with her desire to support and mentor others. As a Graduate Assistant with NSU's new wrestling program, she would bring collegiate wrestling experience, leadership, discipline, mentorship, and a strong commitment to student-athlete development.
Being part of NSU wrestling during its first year would give Tatiana the opportunity to help establish a strong team culture from the beginning. She could contribute through mentoring athletes, assisting with practices and team activities, supporting recruiting efforts, encouraging academic success, and helping create an environment built on accountability, trust, and teamwork.
Her background in Sociology, Human Services, Criminology, and now Social Work also gives her a unique perspective on supporting athletes as people, not just competitors. Tatiana understands that student athletes may face academic, personal, and emotional challenges, and she wants to help create a team environment where athletes feel supported while striving for excellence.
Tatiana is excited about the opportunity to help build something lasting at Northeastern State University. She hopes to use her experience, education, and passion for wrestling to help develop student athletes, contribute to the foundation of NSU's first wrestling program, and give back to the sport that has played such an important role in her life.Â
