Fontana Tate recorded a career-high 23 points and nine rebounds (with no turnovers) to lead NSU to a 59-44 upset victory over No. 2-ranked and previously undefeated Emporia State. The 23-point outing by Tate was the second-most allowed by the ESU this season. Tate also led a defense that held the Lady Hornets to a 24.6 percent (15-for-61) shooting percentage, which was the lowest recorded in a game by ESU since Jan. 2, 1997. No member of the squad reached double-digit points, which marked the first occurrence since Jan. 25, 1995. The 44 points scored by ESU was the fewest in a game since Feb. 15, 2012. Emporia State became the highest-ranked team to ever fall to Northeastern State.
