TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The No. 19-ranked Northeastern State men's soccer team earned a late goal to tie Fort Hays State University 1-1 Thursday night at DeLoache Field.
The RiverHawks (8-3-3, 5-1-2 MIAA) outshot the Tigers (9-4-2, 5-2-1 MIAA) by a 22-12 margin, and NSU now moves into a tie for first place in the league table with Lindenwood (8-2-3, 5-0-2) at 17 points. FHSU sits one point behind in a third-place tie with Truman State (8-4-1, 5-1-1).
Tanner Brock scored the first goal of the match for Fort Hays State in the 41st minute. A Tiger corner kick was redirected to Brock, who rifled a shot from the top of the 18 into the net.
NSU picked up its pressure in the second half and sophomore forward
Juan Peralta earned a penalty kick in the 82nd minute after being taken down from behind in the box by Jared Bailey. Peralta would take the PK and blasted a shot low to the left. FHSU's keeper got a hand to the ball, but he was unable to keep it out of the back of the net.
The goal was the 10th of the season for Peralta, and he is now tied with senior midfielder
Bo White for the team and conference lead in that category.
The two teams would play out the remaining time in regulation and both 10-minute OT sessions without a game-winner.
Freshman goalkeeper
Eric Shephard (2-0-1) saved four shots and allowed one goal in 110:00 of action. Kent Freund (4-2-2) saved nine RiverHawk shots and played the whole way in net for the Tigers.
Northeastern State will return home at 7 p.m. Oct. 20 against Southern Nazarene. NSU defeated the Crimson Storm 2-1 in Bethany, Okla., on Sept. 22.
