TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State women's basketball team capped the first half of the season with a 79-41 victory over the University of Arkansas at Monticello Tuesday night at Jack Dobbins Field House.
The RiverHawks (6-4) were led by senior guard
Taylor Lewis, who knocked down a season-best six trey's and finished with 18 points. Junior forward

NSU (6-4) made its first six three-point attempts of the contest and jumped out to a commanding 32-9 lead after 11 minutes.
Northeastern State coach
Randy Gipson replaced all five starters for the final 8:44 of the first half, and the reserves held the lead at 38-21 heading into intermission.
Gipson made sure all 10 dressed players received sufficient playing time, and they responded well as every RiverHawk played at least 15 minutes and scored at least four points.
NSU outscored the Cotton Blossoms 41-20 in the second half as the home team cruised to the 38-point win. The spread was the largest margin of victory for Northeastern State since a 78-39 triumph over North Alabama on Nov. 7, 2009 (39 points).
Northeastern State shot 56 percent from the field (33-for-59), 52 percent from downtown (11-for-21) and 2 of 3 from the free-throw line. UAM shot just 35 percent from the field (17-for-48), 14 percent from beyond the arc (2-for-14) and 63 percent from the line (5-for-8).
The RiverHawks outrebounded the Cotton Blossoms 39-21, while recording 26 assists and a season-low eight turnovers.
Senior guard
Tosha Tyler added 10 points, five rebounds and four assists for NSU. Demetra Howlingwolf led the Cotton Blossoms (2-7) with 12 points.
NORTHEASTERN STATE COACH RANDY GIPSON
On the dominant game…
“This was a good alert performance by our team on both ends of the floor. We came out and hit some three's to get started after they zoned us early. We got off to a great start. Our team was alert and into the game, just like you'd hope they'd be. They played together on both ends of the floor.”
On closing 2012 with two decisive victories…
“We're playing better, and that's the thing we're really looking at. We're playing with better energy and more alertly on both ends. Our defense was solid and the stats reflect that. We had a very large rebounding advantage, and that's four games in a row now where we've controlled the boards. The assist-to-turnover ratio also showed that we managed the ball well. We shared it and moved it to the open person.”
On having a combined 17 turnovers in the last two games…
“We're happy with how the girls are taking care of the ball. Offensive execution leads to that. When they screen and move well, it creates a rhythm that allows them to make good passes. I also think we're passing the ball into the post better. Efficiency is what we're after, and the turnovers are a telling stat as to how efficient you are. Hopefully we can keep that up.”
On Carrington Fox's career performance...
“She's just playing solid. She's more confident shooting the ball then she has ever been. She's always been a good defender, but I just see her gaining confidence almost daily as we practice. She's showing that she's capable of being a really good player on both ends of the floor.”
