LIBERTY, Mo. Michael Bowie was named a 2012 All-America Honorable Mention by D2Football.com, the organization announced today.

The former left tackle from Northeastern State picked up the All-America honor following his lone season as a member of the RiverHawks in which he produced a team-high 47 knockdowns, while never allowing a quarterback sack.

He was named to the All-MIAA Second Team in November and is projected to be a mid-to-late round NFL draft pick this upcoming April.

Despite being named to the second team by the league coaches, he was one of only three offensive linemen from the entire MIAA to earn the distinction of All-America by D2Football.com. Missouri Western's Macon Allen and Northwest Missouri's Rod Williams joined Bowie on the Honorable Mention team.

The 2012 D2Football.com All-America Teams were selected by the staff of D2Football.com with input from coaches, scouts, media members, and sports information directors from around the country. D2Football.com has named an All-America Team since its inception in 2000.

Bowie becomes the sixth Northeastern State football player to be named a D2Football.com All-American, joining Micah Lomas (First Team, 2001-02), Terry Grayson (Honorable Mention, 2003-04), Joe Kok (Second Team, 2009), Nate Robinson (Honorable Mention, 2010), and Trey McVay (Honorable Mention, 2011).

“This All-American honor for Michael is a reflection of his talent, and a reflection of him buying into what we're doing here,” NSU offensive line coach Mike Barela said. “He is more than deserving of this award, and I couldn't be happier for him.”

Bowie is also set to play in the 2013 Raycom College Football All-Star Classic. The game will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 19 inside the Crampton Bowl in Montgomery, Ala.

The Raycom Classic is a week-long all-star event for college football seniors from around the country. All practices for the Raycom College Football All-Star Classic are open to the public in the week leading up to the game.

Bowie will play on the Stars team, which is being coached by Jim Bates. Bates spent 17 years in the NFL, and he was also head coach of the Miami Dolphins in 2004.

The Stripes team is being led by Dan Reeves, former long-time head coach of the Denver Broncos and Atlanta Falcons. Reeves has participated, either as a coach or player, in nine Super Bowls.

Other seniors from the area joining Bowie at the Raycom Classic will be Trent Dupy (Tulsa OL), Jonathan Rush (Oklahoma State OL), Nigel Nicholas (Oklahoma State DL), and Jamarkus McFarland (Oklahoma DL).
