ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Northeastern State women's basketball team lost a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association matchup 63-50 to Lindenwood University Saturday afternoon inside Hyland Arena.

The RiverHawks (4-5, 1-1 MIAA) saw their recent four-game win streak snapped, while the Lady Lions (6-2, 2-0 MIAA) continue to impress following a 4-22 record a year ago.

Junior guard Fontana Tate and freshman guard Jamie Jackson led NSU with 10 points each. Senior forward Carrington Fox posted a career-high 10 rebounds to go along with five points, five assists and three blocks in 31 minutes.

NSU shot just 31 percent (18-for-59) from the field and 21 percent (3-for-14) from downtown. LU posted a 43-percent shooting average (21-for-49) and connected on 35 percent (6-for-17) from distance. Lindenwood outrebounded NSU 39-36 and made four more free throws (15 to 11) than the RiverHawks.

Morgan Johnson paced the home team with 14 points and eight rebounds. Julie Hlinak added 13 points off the bench and Kassidy Gengenbacher chipped in 12.

Northeastern State found itself with a slim 35-34 lead following back-to-back jumpers early in the second half from junior guard Sarah Sagely, but a jumper from Bre Zanders at 13:05 sparked a 19-3 run from the Lady Lions that put the game out of reach.

Lindenwood coasted the rest of the way and earned the 13-point victory to stay perfect at home (5-0) this season.

NSU returns to Tahlequah following a near two-week break from action for a 5:30 p.m. contest Dec. 19 against Missouri Western State.

Northeastern State Coach Randy Gipson
On the game-winning 19-3 run…
"Lindenwood maintained their energy better than we did. We lost our energy a little bit and didn't do some things defensively that we set out to do. They hit some shots and played like a team that was hungry to win here at home, and we couldn't match their execution or their energy in the second half of the game."

On other keys to the game….
"We were missing some shots that we could make. We lost composure a little bit. We played like a young team on the road against a pretty good team. When they had some things going their way, we didn't respond very well. We put our heads down a little bit after we missed some shots and couldn't get it turned back. We have some players that will step up and learn from this. This is a pretty inexperienced group, and games like today are opportunities for us to learn."

On coming out of a road MIAA weekend with a 1-1 record…
"It's a hard trip coming up here with the cold and everything. I think it was a solid first weekend for us in terms of how we played. We obviously would like to get two wins, but I think this team has a lot of good basketball still to play. I'm looking forward to working with them and preparing for the next one."
