Northeastern State RiverHawks (0-8, 0-8 MIAA) head on the road for the annual President's Cup game against the
(RV) Central Oklahoma Bronchos (6-2, 6-2 MIAA). Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. (CT) Nov. 1 at Wantland Stadium (10,000) in Edmond, Oklahoma.
The game can be heard live on KEOK 102.1 FM in Tahlequah with
Scott Pettus and Sean Rowley providing commentary. A free audio broadcast can be found at goriverhawksgo.com. The game will also be streamed live on Stretch Internet (http://portal.stretchinternet.com/nsu/, subscription based). A football-only season pass is available for $69.95, and a day pass can be purchased for $9.95.
GAME NOTES THE MATCHUP . . . Northeastern State and Central Oklahoma own one of the longest-standing rivalries in Division II college football, with the two teams locking up 74 times since 1912 . . . UCO leads the all-time series 45-27-2, but the RiverHawks own a 9-8 edge since NSU joined the NCAA in 1997 . . . the Bronchos won the first 10 matchups and shutout the then-Redmen nine-straight times, but NSU picked up its first victory over Central Oklahoma in 1933 (14-0) . . . UCO then embarked on another nine-game win streak before NSU was able to start gaining some traction in 1951 . . . Northeastern State has brought home the President's Cup each of the last four years.

THE HEAD COACHES . . . NSU's
ROB ROBINSON (William Jewell, '00) is in his first season as the RiverHawks head coach . . . he was named the 19th head football coach in school history on Dec. 19, 2013 . . . he owns a 0-6 all-time record . . . Robinson spent the previous 12 years under Craig Schurig as a member of the Washburn Ichabod coaching staff, serving as the offensive coordinator for the last four seasons . . . he also directed the running backs from 2007-13 and coached the wide receivers from 2002-06 . . . he served as the recruiting coordinator from 2002-10 and was the academic coordinator from 2010-13 . . . Robinson was an integral member of a Washburn staff that completely turned around the Ichabod program . . . Washburn averaged 3.3 wins from 1989-03 and had just one winning season, but the Ichabods averaged 7.9 wins from 2004-13 and posted 10 straight winning campaigns . . . Robinson is the second former coordinator under Schurig's tutelage to become the head coach of another program, joining Fort Hays State's Chris Brown . . . Robinson spent the 2001 season at Pittsburg State as a graduate assistant, coaching the defensive backs with Ichabod head coach Craig Schurig . . . the Gorillas won the MIAA Championship that year.
UCO'S
NICK BOBECK (Central Oklahoma, '02) is in his third season with the Bronchos . . . he has compiled an 8-18 record during his tenure . . . he finished 2-8 in his first two years, but he has turned the program around and already has more wins this season (6) then he had combined in his first two seasons (4) . . . Bobeck, who played at UCO and then was a graduate assistant coach for the Bronchos, compiled a sensational 42-5 record at Navarro . . . he Bulldogs won the 2010 national championship along with three regular season Southwest Junior College Football Conference (SWJCFC) titles during his tenure there . . . Bobeck was a four-year letterman and two-year starter at fullback for UCO from 1999-02, earning first-team All-Lone Star Conference North Division honors as a senior . . . e stayed on with the Bronchos as a graduate assistant coach the next three seasons, helping UCO go 20-12 during that stint while making the NCAA Division II playoffs in 2003 . . . Bobeck went to Texas A&M as an offensive line coach in 2006 when the Aggies finished 9-4 and earned a berth in the Holiday Bowl . . . e moved on to Navarro the following season and served as offensive coordinator in 2007 when the Bulldogs went 9-3 and won the conference crown.
POWELL PACES THE OFFENSE . . . Junior wide receiver
Garrett Powell has been a bright spot for the Northeastern State offense this season . . . he currently leads the MIAA in receptions per game (6.1) and ranks 38th in the nation in that category . . . he is also fifth in the league in receiving yards per game (73.4) and 73rd in the NCAA . . . he has 49 receptions this season for 587 yards and four touchdowns . . . he is one catch shy of becoming the fourth player in NSU's NCAA era to post 50 in a single season . . . the other three to accomplish the feat are Trey McVay (58 in 2010, 82 in 2011), Jarrett Byers (51 in 2006, 57 in 2008) and Milton Harris (59 in 2003) . . . Powell leads NSU in scoring (24 points) and all-purpose yards (598) . . . he also serves as NSU's primary punter, and he ranks eighth in the league and 57th in the country in yards per punt . . . he has 53 punts for 2,069 yards (39.0) . . . he has six that have gone 50 yards or more and he is third in the MIAA in punts that have landed inside the 20-yard line (12).
FROM RECEIVER TO LEADING THE D . . . Sophomore
Steffon Herd came to NSU as a wide receiver . . . he played in 10 games and made four starts as a redshirt freshman in 2013, and he finished the campaign with 14 receptions for 217 yards . . . due to depth issues in the secondary, new coach
Rob Robinson made the decision to convert Herd to safety . . . that decision is paying off in spades, as Herd leads the RiverHawks in both total tackles (61) and solo tackles (47) . . . his solo tackle total ranks 20th in the country and third in the MIAA this season.
FIELD GOAL WOES . . . Northeastern State was one of just two teams in the entire country (Malone University) to not attempt a field goal in the first five games of the season . . . there are currently five teams across the nation that have failed to make a field goal through the first eight weeks (NSU, Lincoln, Clarion, Southern Nazarene, Cheyney) . . . the RiverHawks are 0-for-4 on field-goal attempts this year . . . Northeastern State graduated one of the most prolific field goal kickers in school history last season in
Drew Patton . . . he finished his career with 39 made field goals and 223 points . . .
Dylan Beers and
Blake Williams have split time serving as NSU's extra point kicker and kickoff specialist this season . . . Beers had a field goal blocked by Nebraska-Kearney and he missed one against both Missouri Southern and Central Missouri, while Williams also had a try blocked by the Lions.
POWER OUTAGE . . . Northeastern State has struggled on the offensive side of the ball in five of the first six games this season, specifically in the running game . . . NSU failed to reach 100 yards rushing in five contests, posting totals of 48, 48, 67, 135, 24, 105, 101, and 54 to start the season . . . against Nebraska-Kearney, NSU reached the 100-yard plateau thanks in large part to a 72-yard run by
Derrick Moore late in the contest when the RiverHawks were already down 34-0 . . . of 167 NCAA Division II teams, Northeastern State currently ranks in the bottom 15 in 14 categories . . . NSU ranks low in total offense (157), rushing offense (160), rushing defense (158), scoring offense (163), scoring defense (155), turnover margin (159), team passing efficiency (157), turnovers gained (161), passes had intercepted (156), passes intercepted (159), third-down conversion percentage (154), fewest penalties (152), fewest penalty yards (154), and red-zone offense (167) . . . Northeastern State was shutout in two of its first three games this season . . . the last time NSU was shutout twice in one season was 1986 . . . the last time NSU began the season with two shutouts in the first three games of the year was 1938.

Dakota Ritchie started the first game of the year at the left tackle position, but he suffered a season-ending injury in that contest . . . Dvorak was recently ruled out for the season . . . Lawson, Frazier and
Chance Douthit have all missed time due to injury . . . NSU started a different offensive-line unit in each of the first seven games of the season . . . the only starting five that has been used more than once is Brown, Lawson, Frazier, West, and Easter, which was used in each of the last two games . . . Brown and Easter are the only two who have started all eight games.
