Men’s Basketball drops 86-40 decision in Fort Smith

FORT SMITH, Ark. – The Northeastern State men's basketball team fell 86-40 to Arkansas-Fort Smith Tuesday night inside Stubblefield Center.
 
The RiverHawks dropped to 1-3 on the season, while the Lions improved to 2-3. NSU has lost by a combined 80 points in its last two trips to Fort Smith (83-49 last year).
 
Northeastern State finished the contest with more missed shots (48) than points. The team was 13 of 61 (21.3 percent) from the field, 7 of 22 (31.8 percent) from downtown and 7 of 10 (70 percent) from the free-throw line. Senior guard Keon Littleton led the RiverHawks with 13 points.
 
Alex Cooper posted a game-high 21 points for the Lions. DaVaunta Thomas tallied 19 points, Seth Youngblood chipped in 11 and Josh Harmon added 10 off the bench.
 
Arkansas-Fort Smith shot a blistering 53.8 percent (28-for-52) from the field, 52 percent (13-for-25) from 3-point territory and 73.9 percent (17-for-23) at the charity stripe.
 
The RiverHawks led 2-0, but Cooper drained a triple 1:25 into the game and the Lions would lead the rest of the way. UAFS led 43-18 at halftime and outscored NSU 43-22 in the second half.
 
Next up for NSU is the Arkansas Tech Thanksgiving Classic Nov. 28-29 in Russellville, Arkansas. Northeastern State will first meet host Arkansas Tech at 6 p.m. Nov. 28 before taking on Ouachita Baptist at 2 p.m. Nov. 29.
