EMPORIA, Kan. – The Northeastern State women's soccer team lost 2-0 to Emporia State Friday evening at the Emporia High School football field.

The RiverHawks fell to 7-2 on the season and 2-1 in the MIAA, while the Hornets improved to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

The two teams played scoreless soccer for most of the first half, until ESU's Ally Taylor scored a goal in the 38th minute. Taylor broke away from the right side and put the ball into the left corner of the net.

The RiverHawks trailed 1-0 until the final 10 minutes of the match when Emporia State's Amelie Heun scored inside the box off a rebound in the 81st minute. Heun entered the match tied with NSU junior forward
Anastasia Robinson for most points in the MIAA (17).

The Hornets outshot NSU 18-14. It's the first time this season that a team has outshot the RiverHawks.

Robinson led the NSU in overall shots (5), while sophomore midfielder
Julia Mathis led the team in shots on goal (2).

Junior goalkeeper
Jordan Woodruff (7-2) played all 90 minutes while allowing two goals and making six saves.

The RiverHawks will stay on the road to face Washburn at 1 p.m. on Oct. 4 in Topeka, Kansas.
