Northeastern State drops 88-80 decision to Southeastern Oklahoma State

DURANT, Okla. – The Northeastern State men's basketball team lost 88-80 to Southeastern Oklahoma State Friday night inside Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

The game was the first of the season and was part of the 2015 MIAA/GAC Basketball Challenge, which is hosted this year by SEOSU.

Northeastern State returned just three players from last year's squad, and two of them reached double figures Friday. Senior forward Dakota Caudill tallied 16 points and nine rebounds, while senior guard Trey Mohair chipped in 11 points.

Junior transfer guard KD Moore led the RiverHawks with 17 points.

Anton Cook paced the Savage Storm with 22 points, with most of his production (12 points) coming from the free-throw line. Tyler Lonzie doubled up with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Nathan Jackson added 13 points and eight boards.

Southeastern Oklahoma State led for the majority of the contest, which included a 44-33 halftime advantage. NSU was able to take a brief 67-66 lead with 6:56 remaining in the contest, but other than that the home team led for the entire second stanza.

The RiverHawks shot 39 percent (30-for-77) from the field, 20.6 percent (7-for-34) from 3-point territory and just 52 percent (13-for-25) at the free-throw line. SEOSU shot 47.5 percent (28-for-59) overall, 15.8 percent (3-for-19) from deep and 74.4 percent (29-for-39) from the line. NSU forced 25 turnovers but coughed the ball up 21 times.

Northeastern State outrebounded the Savage Storm 45-44. The RiverHawks outrebounded opponents seven times last season.

The green and white will remain in Durant to take on Northwestern Oklahoma State at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 14.
