Caudill records first career double-double Wednesday

PSU breaks MIAA’s all-time record for free throws made and attempted, win 106-99

PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Northeastern State men's basketball team lost 106-99 to Pittsburg State Wednesday night inside John Lance Arena in the first MIAA contest of the season.
 
The RiverHawks dropped to 1-4 on the season, while the Gorillas improved to 6-1.
 
Pittsburg State set the MIAA's all-time record for most free throws made and attempted in the game. The Gorillas finished 48 of 63 from the free-throw line, and both marks broke league records that had stood since 1955.
 
Dakota Caudill led NSU with his first career double-double. The senior forward registered 19 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. Senior guard Trey Mohair scored 17 points and had eight assists. Junior guard Braxton Williams added 12 points, true freshman guard Peyton Pratt chipped in 11 and junior guard K.D. Moore scored 10.
 
The RiverHawks shot exactly 50 percent (34-for-68) from the field, 52.9 percent (9-for-17) from behind the arc and 75.9 percent (22-for-29) at the free-throw line. PSU shot 57.8 percent (26-for-45) overall, 60 percent (6-for-10) from distance to go along with a 76.2 percent effort at the line.
 
Dakota Jones led all scorers with 23 points. Both Javis Flynn and Josiah Gustafson scored 19 points, while Trey Starks added 16, Lamine Dieng chipped in 13 and Chris Owens scored 11.
 
Both teams forced 20 turnovers, and Northeastern State led in rebounds (38-32) and assists (17-11).
 
NSU will return to action with a 3 p.m. contest Dec. 5 at Missouri Southern State.
