Lions top Northeastern State, 85-77

Sophomore guard pours in career-high 27, RiverHawks drop to 1-5 on the season

JOPLIN, Mo. – The Northeastern State men's basketball team lost 85-77 to Missouri Southern State Saturday afternoon at Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
 
The RiverHawks (1-5, 0-2 MIAA) lost their fourth in a row, while the Lions improved to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the league.
 
Sophomore guard Montre' Williams scored a career-high 27 points on 9-of-16 shooting to lead NSU. He was 4-for-6 from behind the 3-point line. Senior forward Dakota Caudill added 13 points and senior guard Trey Mohair chipped in 12.
 
Northeastern State shot 44.1 percent (26-for-59) from the field, 55.6 percent (10-for-18) from 3-point territory and 65.2 percent (15-for-23) at the free-throw line. Missouri Southern State shot 46.4 percent (26-for-56) overall, 23.8 percent (5-for-21) from behind the arc and 80 percent (28-for-35) from the line.
 
Taevaunn Prince led all scorers with 37 points for MSSU. He also picked up a double-double with 10 rebounds. DJ Feitl scored 11 and Charlie Brown added 10.
 
Missouri Southern State led in rebounds (37-35), steals (9-1), blocks (4-1) and fewer turnovers (12-17), while Northeastern State led in fast-break points (12-7), bench points (37-15) and assists (10-8).
 
The RiverHawks will remain on the road when they take on Lindenwood at 3 p.m. Dec. 12 in St. Charles, Missouri.
