Gann powers RiverHawks to two victories

NSU sweeps doubleheader over Lady Braves, ups win streak to 8

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State softball team extended its winning streak to eight and earned two victories over NAIA foe Ottawa University Wednesday afternoon at RiverHawks Park.

The RiverHawks (8-4) defeated Ottawa (2-4) 8-0 in five innings before taking game two 5-2.  

Freshman Paige Gann led the way for NSU, batting 6-for-7 with seven runs batted in, four runs scored and two home runs. Five other RiverHawks recorded multiple hits on the day. Seniors Alli Eales and Alyssa Aguilar each had three hits.

Scheduled games in the Teri Mathis Zenner Memorial Classic in Joplin, Missouri on Feb. 27-March 1 have been cancelled due to inclement weather. Follow @RiverHawkSports on twitter and check back to goriverhawksgo.com for information about potential replacement games.

NORTHEASTERN STATE 8, OTTAWA 0 (5 INNINGS)
The RiverHawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Gann hit a three-run home run, followed by a solo shot by Aguilar. NSU plated another run in the third inning on an RBI single by Gann.  

Northeastern State added three additional runs in the fourth inning. Junior Megan Ewton hit a home run, followed by a Gann single, which gave her a fifth RBI in the game. Aguilar then hit the first triple of the season for the RiverHawks, scoring Gann.

Junior Kayce Wooldridge (4-1) threw 5.0 innings and conceded no runs on four hits. She struck out four and walked two.

The RiverHawks plated two runs in the first inning of game two on a Gann two-run home run.  

The Lady Braves scored their first run of the day in the second inning on an Anna Morgan RBI walk. Ottawa was able to tie the game in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI double.

NSU answered in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three runs to retake the lead.

Junior Delaney Gray started the game, giving up one run on two hits in 2.0 innings. Senior Laura Fleck got the victory for the RiverHawks. She allowed one run on four hits in 5.0 innings in the circle. Fleck struck out one Lady Brave and walked none.
