Box Score 2ROSEMOUNT, Minn. – The Northeastern State softball team lost two games to Northern State in the Irish Sports Dome Monday afternoon.
The RiverHawks (8-6) snapped their eight game winning streak when they lost to Northern State (3-1) 4-2 before falling 6-2 in the second game. Â
Sophomore
Madison Boyd (3-for-8) and senior
Alyssa Aguilar (3-for-6) each recorded three hits on the day. Senior
Alli Eales had two hits including a two run home run. Freshman
Paige Gann, Sophomore
Ryan Martin and Junior
Megan Ewton also recorded hits.
Northeastern State will stay in Minnesota and play a doubleheader against the University of Sioux Falls at the Irish Sports Dome March 3.
NORTHERN STATE 4, NORTHEASTERN STATE 2The RiverHawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an Eales two-run homerun. Â
The score remained the same until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Wolves scored four runs to take a 4-2 lead. NSU was unable to muster any runs in the seventh inning and ultimately fell 4-2.
Junior
Kayce Wooldridge (4-2) took the loss for the RiverHawks. She threw 6.0 innings and conceded four runs (three earned) on eight hits. She struck out four and walked one. In the first five innings, Wooldridge held Northern State to four hits. Â
NORTHERN STATE 6, NORTHEASTERN STATE 2Northern State jumped on top in game two. They plated a run in the top of the first inning on an RBI groundout by Macey Engel.
NSU tied things up in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double for Eales. She finished the day with 3 runs batted in.
The Wolves added two runs in both the third and fourth innings, and plated an additional insurance run in the fifth inning.
Northeastern State was able to get one run back in the sixth inning to close the final margin to 6-2 in favor of Northern State.
Junior
Alex Files (2-2) took the loss after allowing six runs on nine hits in 4.1 innings pitched. She struck out two and walked one. Senior
Laura Fleck threw 2.2 innings in relief. She allowed no runs on three hits. Fleck struck out four Wolves and walked none. Â
