Box Score 2ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Northeastern State softball team got its first conference victories of 2015 by sweeping Lindenwood March 14 at Lou Brock Complex.
The RiverHawks (10-12, 2-4 MIAA) defeated Lindenwood (3-17, 1-5 MIAA) 4-2 before completing the sweep with a 5-3 victory. Â
Freshman
Jessica Boone led the way for the RiverHawks. The centerfielder was 3-for-7 with four RBI. Senior
Alli Eales and sophomore
Madison Boyd were 2-for-8, while freshman
Paige Gann was 2-for-7. Sophomore
Ryan Martin finished the day 2-for-5 and freshman
Bailey Applegate was 2-for-6.
Northeastern State will next travel to Jefferson City, Missouri, to take on Lincoln in an MIAA conference doubleheader. The first game is set to begin at 1 p.m. March 15.
NORTHEASTERN STATE 4, LINDENWOOD 2The RiverHawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning after Eales hit a double to the right center fence to score Boyd.
The Lady Lions were able to take the lead in the 3rd inning 2-1.
NSU retook the lead, 4-2, in the sixth inning on RBI doubles by
Jessica Boone and
Madison Boyd. Junior
Kayce Wooldridge held LWU scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings and the RiverHawks were able to earn the conference victory. Â
Wooldridge (5-5) threw 7.0 innings and conceded two runs (one earned) on 5 hits. She struck out four and walked one.
NORTHEASTERN STATE 5, LINDENWOOD 3Lindenwood took the lead in the first inning of the second game. The RiverHawks responded the following inning, going ahead 2-1 when freshman
Brianna Trujillo was hit by a pitch while the bases were loaded and then Boone hit an RBI single.
NSU pushed across another run in the sixth inning on an RBI double by Martin. The green and white added two additional insurance runs in the seventh inning.
The Lady Lions got one run back in the seventh inning, but the defense held strong to earn the conference sweep 5-3.
Senior
Laura Fleck (2-1) got the victory for the RiverHawks. She allowed two runs on 10 hits in 6.0 innings in the circle. Fleck struck out three Lady Lions. Wooldridge pitched the final 1.0 innings, earning her first save of the season. She conceded one run on two hits.
