Box Score 2ROSEMOUNT, Minn. – The Northeastern State softball team lost two games to the University of Sioux Falls in the Irish Sports Dome Tuesday morning.
The RiverHawks (8-8) had their seventh inning rally fall short in a 6-5 loss to Sioux Falls (8-0) before falling 4-1 in the second game. Â
Freshman
Paige Gann led the way for the RiverHawks, finishing the day 4-for-7. Senior
Alli Eales recorded three hits, while sophomore
Madison Boyd (2-for-8), senior
Alyssa Aguilar (2-for-7), junior
Megan Ewton (2-for-6) and freshman
Kaleigh Hinkle (2-for-6) each had two hits.
Northeastern State will next return home to begin conference play. NSU will take on Missouri Western State in a doubleheader slated to begin at noon on March 6.
SIOUX FALLS 6, NORTHEASTERN STATE 5The RiverHawks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Freshman
Jessica Boone started the game with a lead-off triple and Boyd followed up with an RBI single to left-center field.
NSU doubled its lead in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by sophomore
Ryan Martin.Â
Sioux Falls took its first lead in the bottom of the third inning. They scored five runs in the inning to take a 5-2 advantage. The Cougars plated an additional run in the fourth inning.
The RiverHawks rallied in the seventh inning, scoring three runs to close the score to 6-5, but ultimately fell in the first game.
Junior Jayce Wooldridge (4-3) took the loss for the RiverHawks. She threw 6.0 innings and conceded six runs (three earned) on seven hits. She struck out seven and walked four.
SIOUX FALLS 4, NORTHEASTERN STATE 1Northeastern State jumped out to a lead again in the second game. In the second inning, Ewton hit a homerun to put the RiverHawks up 1-0.
The Cougars responded in the third inning, scoring three runs, including two on the second homerun of the day for Sioux Falls catcher Betsy Thomas.
USF added an additional insurance run in the fifth inning to open the margin to 4-1 in favor of the Cougars.

Delaney Gray (1-2) took the loss after allowing four runs (one earned) on six hits in 4.1 innings pitched. She struck out two and walked two. Senior
Laura Fleck threw 2.2 innings in relief. She allowed no runs on one hit. Fleck struck out six Cougars and walked one. Â
