TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State softball team lost two games to Northwest Missouri State at RiverHawks Park Sunday afternoon.
The RiverHawks (8-12, 0-4 MIAA) lost to Northwest Missouri State (4-6, 2-2 MIAA) 9-3 before falling 7-6 in game two. Â
Alyssa Aguilar led the way for the RiverHawks. The senior (4-for-7) hit two homeruns and recorded five RBI. Sophomore
Madison Boyd (3-for-8) recorded three hits on the day, while senior
Alli Eales and freshman
Paige Gann each had two hits.
Northeastern State will next travel to Lincoln to play a doubleheader March 13. The first game is set to begin at noon.
NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE 9, NORTHEASTERN STATE 3The Bearcats pushed across a pair of runs in both the first and second innings to hold a 4-0 lead.
The RiverHawks were able to get one run back in the bottom of the fourth inning on an Eales solo homerun. NSU then cut the lead to 4-2 in the fifth inning when Boyd hit an RBI double down the right-field line.
Northwest Missouri State responded in the sixth inning, scoring five runs on five hits. The green and white brought one run across in the bottom of the sixth to bring the score to 9-3.
Junior
Kayce Wooldridge (4-5) took the loss for the RiverHawks. She threw 6.0 innings and conceded nine runs (six earned) on 11 hits. She struck out five and walked two. Sophomore
Krissy Crow threw a scoreless seventh frame for NSU.
NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE 7, NORTHEASTERN STATE 6Northwest Missouri State took a 2-0 advantage in the first inning when Stephanie Mark hit a two-run homerun. The Bearcats plated an additional run in the third inning.
The RiverHawks had a big fourth inning, scoring five runs. Gann hit a lead-off homer before Aguilar gave NSU a 5-3 lead with a grand slam.
The Bearcats tied things up in the sixth inning on a two-run homerun by Jessica Rawie. Northwest Missouri State then retook the lead in the top of the seventh inning on a Rebecca Maher two-run homerun.
NSU was able to get one run back in the bottom of the seventh when Aguilar hit a solo homerun to start the inning. The RiverHawks were unable to push more runs across, and their rally fell short.
Senior
Laura Fleck started in the circle for the RiverHawks. She allowed five runs on five hits in 5.1 innings pitched. Fleck struck out five and walked two Bearcats. Sophomore
Krissy Crow (0-2) took the loss for NSU. She threw 1.2 innings, allowing two runs on two hits.Â
