NSU softball defeated by Arkansas Tech in nonconference action

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State softball team lost to Arkansas Tech Tuesday afternoon at RiverHawks Park.

The RiverHawks (17-26) lost to Arkansas Tech (33-12) 7-5 before weather forced the two teams to cancel the second game of the planned doubleheader.  

Sophomore Ryan Martin finished the day 2-for-4 with two RBI. Sophomore Madison Boyd (1-for-3), senior Alyssa Aguilar (1-for-3), freshman Bailey Applegate (1-for-3), freshman Kaleigh Hinkle (1-for-4) and junior Megan Ewton (1-for-3) each recorded a hit.

Northeastern State will next host Southeastern Oklahoma State April 15 in a nonconference doubleheader at RiverHawks Park. The first game is set to begin at 2 p.m.

ARKANSAS TECH 7, NORTHEASTERN STATE 5
The Golden Suns took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Kambri Hill hit a leadoff home run.

The RiverHawks tied the game at 1-1 in the third inning when Paige Gann hit a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Ewton to score from third base.

Arkansas Tech scored five runs in the top of the fifth inning on four hits. The team added an additional insurance run in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Alex Edinger.

The green and white got three runs back in the bottom of the sixth inning. Martin brought home two runs when she hit a home run down the right field line after Aguilar had reached on a single. Later in the inning, Ewton singled up the middle allowing Applegate to come around and score after being walked.

The RiverHawks pushed across another run in the bottom of the seventh inning on an RBI single by Applegate which closed the final score to 7-5.

Junior Delaney Gray (1-4) took the loss for the RiverHawks. She threw 5.0 innings and conceded six runs on seven hits. Senior Laura Fleck threw 1.0 innings in relief, giving up one run on three hits. Sophomore Krissy Crow threw a scoreless seventh inning, allowing one hit.
