PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Northeastern State softball team split an MIAA doubleheader against Pittsburg State University Saturday afternoon at the PSU Softball Complex.
The RiverHawks (20-29, 10-14 MIAA) lost to PSU (31-17, 15-8 MIAA) 1-0 before winning 6-4 in the second game to earn the split.
Senior
Alli Eales (2-for-6) led the team with three RBI. Freshman

Megan Ewton (2-for-7) each had two hits on the day. Redshirt freshman
Paige Gann (1-for-4) had two runs batted in.
Northeastern State will next travel to Joplin, Missouri, to take on Missouri Southern State in the final doubleheader of the season April 26. The first game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
PITTSBURG STATE 1, NORTHEASTERN STATE 0 The game remained scoreless through three innings. The Gorillas scored the only run of the game in the fourth when Cheslyn Mitchell led off the inning with a home run to center field.
The RiverHawks were able to get at least one runner on in six of the seven innings, but were unable to bring anyone around to score.
Junior pitcher
Kayce Wooldridge went toe-to-toe with Pittsburg State pitcher Emmie Robertson, who is the league leader in earned run average, opposing batting average, innings pitched and batters struck out. Wooldridge (11-12) gave up one run on six hits in 6.0 innings pitched. She struck out five and walked just one.
NORTHEASTERN STATE 6, PITTSBURG STATE 4The RiverHawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning in the second game. After Boone walked and Boyd was safe on a fielding error, Gann singled up the middle to allow a run to score.
NSU added four additional runs in the second inning. Martin began the inning with a single and then moved up to third on two ground outs. Ewton stepped up to the plate and singled her home. Boone and Boyd then had back-to-back walks to load the bases before Eales had a bases clearing single to right field.
Pittsburg State got two runs back in the third inning. Jordan Bradshaw led off with a home run. A double and an RBI single then cut the lead to 5-2.
The green and white got one run back in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Gann.
The Gorillas scored two runs in the fifth inning. Nicole Nease hit a two-run home run to close the gap to 6-4. Â
Senior
Laura Fleck (5-5) earned the victory for the RiverHawks in the circle. She gave up four runs on seven hits in 5.0 innings pitched. Fleck struck out two and did not concede a walk. Wooldridge earned her second save of the season. The junior threw 2.0 hitless innings, striking out one.
