NSU blows past Bison, 5-1

Northeastern State puts home four second-half goals to earn big road win in Shawnee

SHAWNEE, Okla. – The Northeastern State men's soccer team defeated Oklahoma Baptist 5-1 Thursday evening at the OBU Soccer Complex.

The RiverHawks (3-2) snapped a brief two-match losing skid, while the Bison fell to 1-5 on the year.

OBU was actually to jump out on top when Kervy Robles headed home a Spencer Lange cross in just the fourth minute of play.

It only took NSU six minutes to equalize when newly-converted forward Crosby Lee rebounded his own saved shot and slotted home a touch from the left end line.

The sides would finish out the first half deadlocked at 1-1, but the RiverHawks erupted for three quick goals in the second half to seize control of the match.

First up was sophomore Justin Todd, who ripped a volley from 20 yards out into the right side of the net following a perfect touch pass from Lee. Redshirt freshman Joseph Garcia began the play from the left flank when he initially passed the ball to Lee at the top of the box.

True freshman James Olmos was dragged down in the box in the 51st minute and calmly converted the ensuing penalty kick. Garcia then added a goal of his own 22 seconds later when he headed home a perfect cross from Olmos.

Redshirt freshman Morgan Dizney capped the night in the 83rd minute when he finished a long through ball from junior Jonathan Guzman.

Senior goalkeeper Eric Shephard (3-2) stopped five shots and earned the victory in net. Marcus Oliveira allowed the game-winning goal and suffered the loss for the home side.

Northeastern State will remain on the road and will compete against Oklahoma Christian at 2 p.m. Sept. 19 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
