MARYVILLE, Mo. – A monster first half for #21 Northeastern State with four goals kicked the RiverHawks to a 4-1 win on Friday afternoon at Northwest Missouri State.
NSU stuck first only five minutes into the match with a header from
Sarah Rector off a corner kick;
Kelsey McIntyre was credited with the assist. The goal by Rector was her second of the season. At the 21-minute mark,
Julia Mathis scored her eleventh goal of the year on a cross from
Mikayla Carlson. With the goal on Friday, Mathis has moved in the NSU season record books, and is tied for sixth most in a year.
The RiverHawks kept finding the net and at the 35-minute mark McIntyre scored her second goal of the season off a corner. Three minutes later,
Shelby Brewster kicked a shot through the hands of the NWMSU keeper for her fourth goal of the year;
Anastasia Robinson picked up the assist on the play.
Northeastern State went nearly 65 minutes until the Bearcats scored their lone goal of the match to end the RiverHawks shutout.
NSU had 17 shots at the Bearcats with six shots on goal; NWMSU had nine with four shots at the net.
The victory for NSU will bring them to 12-1 overall and 5-1 in MIAA play; Northwest Missouri State falls to 4-7-1 and 2-4 in league action.
The RiverHawks will remain on the road to face Missouri Western State on Sunday at noon.
