TAHLEQUAH --
Trevor Reed kicked in his sixth goal of the season but Northeastern State would fall 2-1 on a late Upper Iowa goal on Thursday evening at DeLoache Field.
The contest which was NSU's first home event in over two weeks was a largely defensive and physical battle with only 17 total shots, and seven combined yellow cards.Â
Reed's goal came at the 9:28 mark off of a pass from
Joseph Garcia to put the RiverHawks out in front. However, UIU came back with a breakaway shot just two minutes later to even the game at one.Â
From there, the match was a stalemate until with 3:30 left in regulation the Peacocks broke through on the right side of the net and kicked in the go-ahead shot.
Northeastern State put up 11 shots in the match and had two corner kicks;
Nikolai Solomon and
Trevor Reed both had three of NSU's shots against UIU.
The loss will send NSU to 5-7 this season overall and 1-3 in MIAA play, Upper Iowa goes to 5-8 and 2-3 in the league.
Northeastern State returns to action on Saturday with a home match against Lindenwood at 11 a.m.
