Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

NSU falls 2-0 on the road at #20 Fort Hays

HAYS, Kan. – The Northeastern State men's soccer team went toe-to-toe for over 50 minutes at #20 Fort Hays State but they would fall 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.

NSU put up seven shots in the first half at the FHSU goalkeeper who had three saves on RiverHawks kicks.  However, nine minutes into the second period the Tigers found the back of the net on a give-and-go inside the back to take the lead at home.

The RiverHawks came up empty on a pair of corner kicks before Fort Hays got some insurance on a long shot from 25 yards out at the 70th minute to go up by two.

Both Joseph Garcia and Trevor Reed tried to get NSU on the scoreboard with late shots in the final minutes but FHSU's keeper stopped both of those kicks.

Fort Hays State had 12 shots, two more than the RiverHawks, with corner kicks even at eight.

Juan Amaro, Garcia, and Reed all led NSU with two shots.

The loss on Sunday will bring NSU to 5-9-1 overall and 1-5 in the MIAA, Fort Hays State goes to 12-3-1 overall and 5-1 in league play.

Northeastern State will head to Joplin on Wednesday at 7 p.m. to face Southwest Baptist in a make-up match from earlier in the season; the RiverHawks will be playing at Joplin High School.
