JOPLIN, Mo. – A pair of quick goals off of headers gave the RiverHawks a 2-1 win against Southwest Baptist on Wednesday night.Â
The match which was played at Joplin High School was a make-up date from Northeastern State's Oct. 12 visit to SBU that was postponed due to heavy rain prior to the start.
Trevor Reed got NSU going three minutes into the match on a header off a corner kick by
Joseph Garcia for his seventh goal of the year. Â
NSU took advantage of another corner kick at the 27-minute mark and this time it was
Aaron Ugbah coming up with the header. Garcia and
Robbie Clark both picked up the assist on the goal for NSU.
The RiverHawks kept the Bearcats scoreless until minute-65 where they broke through the NSU defense to score.
Reed led the RiverHawks with four shots and three shots on goal,
Ismael Serratos, and Ugbah both had two shots for NSU.
NSU led in overall shots 12-to-9 with corner kicks even at four.
The win will bring Northeastern State to 6-9-1 overall and 2-5 in the MIAA, Southwest Baptist will go to 0-15-2 and 0-7 in the league.
Both teams will face each other to end the season on Saturday at 6 p.m. at DeLoache Field
