#19 NSU claims MIAA lead after 2-1 win over LU

TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State's season remained perfect through 11 matches with a 2-1 win over Lindenwood on Friday night at DeLoache Field.

The victory for the number-19 ranked RiverHawks gave them sole possession of the top-spot in the MIAA standings with the win and a Central Missouri 2-1 loss to Central Oklahoma in Edmond; NSU now owns a 4-0 MIAA record.

The first half was defensive battle until the 32:59 mark where Shelby Brewster scored in the box off a cross pass from Anastasia Robinson to put the RiverHawks up 1-0 at the half.  Lindenwood put off seven shots at the goal with Jordan Woodruff picking up four saves for NSU.

NSU quickly found the net in the second half in the first two minutes with Anastasia Robinson scoring her second goal of the season on a shot from 35 yards out.

Lindenwood struck back with 20 minutes to go on a breakaway unassisted shot to cut the NSU lead by half.   The Lady Lions threatened twice in the remaining minutes with Woodruff stopping the ball both times.

NSU had 14 shots and three corner kicks, with Lindenwood having 12 shots, and a pair of shots from the corner.

The loss will send LU to 5-4-1 overall and 2-2 in league play.

Northeastern State will remain at home and will face number-2 ranked Central Missouri in a critical MIAA battle on Sunday at 1 p.m.; the meeting will be the first top-20 home matchup for the RiverHawks.
