EDMOND – Northeastern State rallied back from a 17-point deficit to force overtime in the MIAA/GAC Challenge but they would fall 91-80 to Northwestern Oklahoma on Sunday.

Montre' Williams and
Juvon Turner both led the RiverHawks with 19 points with Turner picking up the double-double by grabbing 12 rebounds.Â
Cameron Martin had 15 points off the NSU bench and
Karon Waller had 11 to complete the RiverHawks in double-figures.

Turnovers were the underlying storyline of the evening with a combined 53 being committed. The RiverHawks picked up 34 points off of 29 Ranger turnovers and 31 points were scored by Northwestern on 24 NSU miscues.

Northwestern Oklahoma had a slight 46-to-39 edge in rebounds with the offensive glass even at 16 each.

The RiverHawks shot 42.3-percent (30-71) from the field and Northwestern went 50.8-percent (33-65) on their side of the court.  Both teams went 5-for-16 from the arc with the Rangers hitting a pair of key three-pointers in overtime.   At the free throw line, NSU was 15-for-28, and NWOSU went 20-for-29.

NSU used 15 unanswered points to pull even with the Rangers by the mid-way mark in the second half and with 2:37 left on the clock the RiverHawks sat on a 71-63 lead. However, Northeastern State went cold after hitting their 49th point of the half and the Rangers reeled back in on an 8-0 run to close regulation.   The RiverHawks had an opportunity to win the game on a buzzer beater but they missed a jumper at the horn to push the contest to overtime.

The Rangers who only had hit three treys in regulation opened overtime with back-to-back three pointers and went on a 13-0 run to tilt to contest away from NSU.  Â

Northwestern Oklahoma had five players in double-figures with Brandon Green and Adrian Motley both having a team high 16 points. Trey Johnson had the games other double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

The loss will send NSU to 0-2 overall and Northwestern Oklahoma will go to 1-1.

Northeastern State returns to action in Claremore on Wednesday to face Rogers State at 7 p.m.

- Tuner's double-double was his first in an NSU uniform and the team's first since Feb. 11, 2016 (

- Second straight game for Williams to hit double-figures and it was a his 22nd overall.
