The Headline: Northeastern State will open a three game home stand that will cross through the Thanksgiving holiday. The RiverHawks will play Southwestern Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon and then open MIAA play on Nov. 30 with Missouri Western State.
The Series: The RiverHawks lead the overall series against UA-Fort Smith 3-1 and since the 2011-12 season when both Southwestern Oklahoma and Northeastern State left the Lone Star Conference the RiverHawks are 3-2.
Last time out for NSU:
Rylie Torrey's 27 points carried the RiverHawks to a 73-64 road win at Rogers State in Claremore on Nov. 16; the NSU sophomore went 6-for-9 from the arc and had 16 points by halftime.
Cailyn Long was NSU's second leading scorer with 18 points and she was perfect in all six opportunities at the free-throw line.
Mary Jane Buschmann had her 15th game in double-figures with 13 points and she led NSU with seven rebounds.
Last time out for UAFS: UAFS lost at Pittsburg State 84-64 and never led in the contest shooting 38.1-percent as a team. Micayla Haynes led the Lions with 16 points by they would go 4-for-19 from the three-point arc. In points in the paint, UAFS had the edge on Pitt with 38 points to their 20.
Scouting UAFS: The Lions were picked to finish second in the Heartland Conference after going 21-9 overall with three returners and six newcomers who are under first year head coach Elena Lovato. Lovato came from Mississippi State where she was an assistant at for the last two seasons. Jazmine Spears leads UAFS with 14.4 points per game and Tayla Taylor is leading on the glass with 8.8 rebounds per game. The Lions are being outscored by four points a game and they have lost their last three in a row.
Last time out for SWOSU: Southwestern Oklahoma fell to Harding 76-72 in GAC play on Nov. 19 in their last contest. The Lady Bulldogs held a slight shooting edge but were out-rebounded 48-to-38 with Hailey Tucker and Hayden Priddy both having 17 points.
Scouting SWOSU: The Lady Bulldogs were picked third in the GAC preseason pull and return Hailey Tucker who led the team with 81 three-point made shots and averaged 15.4 points and 5.7 rebounds per game last season as a freshman. Tucker was also the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Player of the Week earlier this season after posting back-to-back double digit scoring and rebounding numbers. Through four games this season, Tucker leads SWOSU with 19.8 point per game and ten rebounds per outing. In the first half, SWOSU has started out slowly out of the gates getting outscored 156-to-130.
600: Head Coach
Randy Gipson hit his 600th career win on Nov. 13, 2016 by beating Northwestern Oklahoma 82-67 in Edmond, Okla. at the MIAA/GAC Challenge. In his 28th year as a head coach, Gipson owns a 601-262 career record, and he is 311-185 through 18 years at Northeastern State.
