Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball falls at home to Dallas Baptist, 80-65

TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State had four in double-figures but 25 turnovers plagued NSU to an 80-65 non-conference loss to Dallas Baptist on Tuesday night.

Cameron Martin led the RiverHawks with 15 points, Braxton Williams had 11 points and a game high seven rebounds.  Tanner Mouse scored 12 and a season high five steals, Juvon Turner added ten and he had five rebounds.

"Braxton Williams played his best game all year for us," said head coach Jason Tinsley.  "We need to get Braxton to shoot more and he passes up a lot of good opportunities…he needs to have 11 or 12 points each time he hits the floor."

"We're just not playing very well, not defending the ball, and struggling to score.  It's tough…I hate the way we are playing right now."

Northeastern State trailed from the opening horn and shot 39.6-percent (19-48).  From the arc, NSU didn't connect on a three pointer until the final two minutes of the contest while going 2-for-10.  The RiverHawks had a 33-32 edge in rebounds over DBU but they would sink 10 treys while going 49.1-percent (28-57) on the floor.

Offense was a premium for both squads out of the gates with neither team hitting double-figures until the midway mark.   The Patriots held onto an edge for the majority of the half, NSU made it a 17-13 game with 3:58 left on a Martin layup.  However, DBU pulled out to a ten-point (30-20) halftime lead on a three-pointer at the buzzer.  Martin had 11 of the RiverHawks points with NSU shooting 31.8-percent (7-22) from the field and missing on all six attempts from the arc.

NSU continued to trail by double-figures in the second half to the Patriots and the closest they would get was with off six unanswered points with 9:40 left to get within eight (47-39).  Braxton Williams hit NSU's first three of the night with 1:59 left as they were able to cut a 23 point DBU lead down to 15 by the final horn.

Dallas Baptist had three in double-figures with Myles Johnson scoring 26.

Tuesday night's loss will send the Northeastern State to 2-6 overall and Dallas Baptist goes to 4-3.

The RiverHawks will return to MIAA play on Saturday where they will visit Southwest Baptist for a 3:30 p.m. tip off.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- NSU's bench out-scored Dallas Baptist 30-to-18.
- Montre' Williams was limited to a season low three points and snapped a nine game streak of ten or more points.
