Baseball walked off again

Northeastern State falls 6-5 to Northwest Missouri State, Bearcats win with walkoff single

MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northeastern State baseball team lost 6-5 to Northwest Missouri State Saturday afternoon at Bearcat Field.
 
The RiverHawks (6-5) lost their second in a row to drop to 0-2 in the MIAA, while the Bearcats (7-4) are now 2-0 in the league after earning their second-straight walkoff victory over NSU.
 
Senior Eric Kirkpatrick and junior Bryce Davenport were both 2-for-4 to lead Northeastern State.
 
Junior Tyler Yancey picked up a no-decision after conceding two runs on five hits in the first 5.0 frames. Junior Zack Hammock gave up three runs (one earned) in 2.0 innings of relief, and senior Jake Kern (0-1) took the loss after giving up the game-winning run in the final 1.2 frames.
 
Ozzie Adams and Nick Gotta paced the home team with two hits each. Adams and Jake Lewis both scored twice.
 
Anthony Caenepeel threw the first 6.0 innings and gave up two runs on five hits. He struck out seven and walked just one. Bryce Shea (2-0) threw the final 3.0 frames to collect his second-straight win over NSU. He allowed one unearned run on just two hits. He struck out four and walked one.
 
Northeastern State will look to avoid the conference-opening sweep Feb. 28 at 1 p.m.
