NSU spring game, 2016 football schedule announced

RiverHawks to play Green and White game April 2, set to open 2016 campaign Sept. 1

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Northeastern State athletics announced Tuesday the football schedule for the upcoming 2016 campaign, as well as the date and time for the 2016 Green and White game.
 
The annual Green and White game will be held at 2 p.m. April 2 at Doc Wadley Stadium and will conclude spring drills for the RiverHawks. Admission is free for all patrons.
 
Northeastern State will play five home games and six road games in 2016, all against MIAA opposition.
 
The RiverHawks will see a fresh face on opening night after competing against Pittsburg State in the first game of the season each of the last four years. The green and white will head to Topeka, Kansas, for a 6 p.m. start Sept. 1 against Washburn to kickoff the campaign.
 
The home opener is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sept. 8 and will be against Lindenwood. NSU is then slated to head to Kansas for a matchup against the Gorillas on Sept. 17 before returning home to face Fort Hays State Sept. 24 for Homecoming.
 
The RiverHawks will play Missouri Western State Oct. 1 in St. Joseph, Missouri, before welcoming Emporia State to Tahlequah on Oct. 8.
 
A trip to Maryville, Missouri, is next on the docket as NSU will face the defending national champions, Northwest Missouri State, Oct. 15.
 
Northeastern State hosts Nebraska-Kearney Oct. 22 and will head on the road to face Missouri Southern State Oct. 29 in Joplin, Missouri.
 
The final home game of the season will be against Central Missouri Nov. 5, and the final game of the year will be at Central Oklahoma Nov. 12 in Edmond, Oklahoma.
